Payless Car Rental

Acceptance of Loss Damage Waiver (LDW) reduces the renter and authorized additional drivers of financial responsibility to between 250.00 CAD and 2500.00 CAD depending on car group confirmed, if the car is damaged or stolen while under rental contract. Using the vehicle in violation of any of the use restrictions listed on the rental agreement could void LDW and leave the renter fully responsible for any damage to the vehicle.

If LDW is not accepted, the customer is financially responsible for the full value of the car if:

• Accident damage
• Glass damage
• Vandalism
• Theft of the car
• Stolen items such as radio, battery, etc.

Customer's may also be responsible for reimbursing Payless for the revenue lost by not being able to use the car while it is being repaired or not recovered due to theft (loss of use).

Non-waiveable Excess:

• Car groups A (Subcompact), B (Compact), C (Intermediate), D (Standard), E (Fullsize), F (Intermediate SUV), G (Premium),  S (Special) = 500 CAD
• Car groups H (Luxury), L (Full Size SUV), P (Full Size Pickup), W (Standard SUV), V (Mini Van) = 1000 CAD
• All other car groups  = CAD 2500 CAD

At the time of rental, the customer must initial whether he/she accepts or declines the LDW and optional services. LDW and optional services must be signed for at the rental counter. All Payless cars are not to be driven on unpaved roads (like gravel, dirt, etc.). Customer may inquire at time of rental for detailed information.

The following are accepted forms of payment: American Express, Diners Club, MasterCard and Visa.

Credit Card Hold:  The minimum credit hold is $500.  If the estimated total is above $500, an authorization on your credit card will be placed for the entire amount of the rental.  Unused authorizations will be released upon return of the vehicle.

Stored Value/Prepaid/Gift Cards are not acceptable to qualify for rental.

These funds will no longer be available for your immediate use and may take up to 14 days, depending on your bank, to become available.  We will not be responsible for any returned checks or insufficient fund charges or bank fees related to this process.

Debit Cards are not accepted at time of check-out for any type of vehicle.

All drivers must meet the renting location's minimum age requirements, have a valid driver's license, clean driving record, and present a major credit card in his/her own name at the time of rental.  All customers must also present a second form of ID.  Please refer to the Additional Information topic for details.U.S. driver's licenses are valid in Canada. 

Proof of auto insurance is required.  U.S. auto insurance is accepted as long as an individual is a visitor in Canada.  U.S. insurance firms will issue a Canadian insurance card, which should be obtained and carried prior to driving into Canada.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR RENTERS FROM COUNTRIES OUTSIDE THE UNITED STATES & CANADA.

-Must have a valid drivers license from renters/drivers country of origin. 
-Must have a valid passport.
-Must have a valid international drivers license if the drivers license of origin is not in Roman alphabet.

All drivers must meet minimum age requirements, present a valid photo drivers license and credit card in his/her own name. All location policies that apply to the renter will also apply to the additional driver. The additional driver fee is $10 CAD per day/per driver with a maximum of $100 per driver. 

Additional Authorized Drivers for Vision Impaired Renters - A traveling companion who will serve as a driver for the visually impaired renter will be authorized at no additional charge. Drivers must meet our age requirements and possess a valid drivers license. Please advise the Payless representative at the time of rental. Both must be present at the time of the transaction.

Taxes, Fees and Surcharges will vary by location and are included in your approximate total.

A Frequent Flyer Surcharge or excise tax will be assessed in connection with miles requested for your Payless car rental.

For vehicle Groups: F (Intermediate), G (Premium), H (Luxury), K (Convertible), P (Full Size Pickup), W (Standard), L (Full Size SUV), Z (Premium SUV) and all Group X (Specialty Vehicles).

At locations in Canada, you may be asked to provide an additional form of identification as a condition to rent a vehicle. Acceptable forms of additional identification are: 

• Military ID
• Certificate of Indian Status
• Canadian passport
• Canadian Permanent Resident Card
• Foreign passport that meets the requirements
• Nexus or Fast/Express card
• Non-driver's license issued by a province or territory
• ID card issued by the federal government, provincial or territorial government
• Credit card (other than the one being used for payment of rental) in Customer's name

Accepted. Park & lock the car. Place the completed contract & the keys in the key drop box. Remember to take your personal belongings with you.

***Through June 30, 2020, the underage surcharge is waived in participating locations in all states EXCEPT Maryland, Michigan and New York.  The minimum age requirements remain the same.  The underage surcharge will apply for rentals beginning on or after July 01, 2020.***

Renter must be 25 years of age with a valid drivers license and a major credit card in his/her own name.
Ages 21-24  years of age may rent Economy Compact, Intermediate, Standard and Full sized cars with an additional $25.00 per day surcharge.

Additional drivers are not permitted on underage rentals.

Reservations to request disability equipment should be placed only by calling 1-800-PAYLESS

Hand controls are provided at no additional cost (not all make/models will accommodate hand controls).

Availability of special equipment must be verified before the reservation can be confirmed.

If you require special equipment to operate the vehicle, please contact us at 1-800-PAYLESS. We will process your request and send a confirmation response within 72 hours after verifying availability with the renting location.

ADDITIONAL AUTHORIZED DRIVERS FOR VISION IMPAIRED RENTERS: A traveling companion who will serve as a driver for the visually impaired renter will be authorized at no additional charge. Drivers must be at least 25 years of age and possess a valid drivers license. Please advise the Payless representative of the companion driver at the time of rental. Both must be present at the time of the transaction.

If you purchase our Extended Roadside Assistance we will waive all, or a portion of, the cost of a roadside assistance service call.

You may purchase Extended Roadside Assistance at $9.99 per rental day with benefits including - Emergency road service towing - jump start, flat tire change and replacement, lockout service, emergency fuel delivery, lost keys and front windshield replacement. (Some restrictions apply, see brochure at location for further details.)

Vehicle is rented with a full tank. You may bring the vehicle back full to avoid a charge or Payless will refuel your vehicle based on the miles driven or level of the tank. A refueling fee will apply per litre. 

Location must be notified at time of rental when driving out of the originating province. Failure to notify location may result in additional penalties.

One-Way: One way rentals are not permitted at this location. Unauthorized one-way rentals will be subject to a surcharge.

Rental is based on a 24-hour period. The client receives a 29-minute grace period. If he/she keeps the vehicle after this time an hourly rate will apply from minute one.

Unlimited kilometers apply to airline arriving customers only. Unlimited kilometers do not apply for local rentals. Local residents receive 200 free kilometers per day, 1,400 kilometers per week, and 4,000 kilometers (maximum) on any rental exceeding 3 weeks and $0.20 CAD for each additional kilometer driven during the entire rental.
BORDER CROSSING: Vehicles entering the USA are subject to a border crossing fee of $13.00 CAD per day, kilometers are limited to 200 kilometers per day, 1,400 kilometers per week and 4,000 kilometers per month (maximum) for rentals exceeding 3 weeks, and $0.20 CAD for each additional kilometer driven during your entire rental.

Payless Car has initiated an enhanced inspection process to help ensure a pleasant rental experience for all. Each vehicle will be confirmed "smoke-free" when it is provided to a customer. Upon it's return, it will be inspected. If it is determined that the vehicle must be cleaned of smoke odor and residue, the renter will be assessed a fee of up to $250.00.

Debit Card Hold: We do not accept debit cards at the beginning of the rental for holds. They can only be used upon return of the vehicle for payment.

Cash rentals are not accepted.

Rentals not extended will incur a $15 per day late fee.

Rentals cannot exceed 30 days.

Rentals above 30 days will incur a $15 per day late fee.

You must call the location directly to extend your rental prior to the due date and time.

If extended, additional authorization will be taken if the new amount is above the original authorization.

It is the policy of Payless to have the confirmed vehicle available for calendar day of the scheduled arrival.
